Edge was less enthusiastic about the PC version, saying that \"there's wild west fun to be had within these simplistic charms, but it's unlikely to replace your favoured multiplayer shooter.\" Eurogamer, GameSpot and Kotaku complained of multiplayer lag in the game. Kotaku's Luke Plunkett said he \"[couldn't] remember the last online shooter [he] played that was so crippled by it.\" Subsequent patches have repaired networking issues found in the original release.
Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild WestPlatform PCRated: NAPublished by Paradox Interactive Developed by fatsharkBAJOWith Red Dead Redemption on the horizon, the thought of riding around on dusty plains and having crazy shootouts is starting to tug, so this week we took a look at 'Lead and Gold: Gangs of the wild west, a multiplayer 3rd person shooter on Steam and apparently coming to consoles as well. It might remind you of TF2 a little. HEXSporting some very crisp models and visuals, music and combat rolls, you'll be taking on posses over a reasonable collection of multiplayer modes and maps. There are 4 classes you can play, The gunslinger whose special talent is an inaccurate rapid fire pistol. The tough blaster, who is all about short rage high damage likes his dynamite, the deputy who is a good all rounder and can tag enemies on the hud, and the trapper, who... traps and is also a sniper.BAJOThere are some nice ideas in this little shooter, when you get more than one class together they radiate 'synergy' effects which buff everyone around them. They don't stack, so a good mix of classes is important and it means sticking with your teammates is just much more rewarding. I like what they did with the rally flag HEX, anyone can pick it up and carry it on your back, then it works as a spawn point. If you die, you drop it, but if no member of the other team goes up to it and removes it by pushing E, then you can still spawn on it which means you'll often die, and then respawn right next to your noob foe and teach him a lesson in rally point removal.HEXgetting injured will sometimes throw you into a 'last stand' and any team member can revive you, while you try to cover them. There are some pretty brutal moments... these old guns pack a punch. I would have liked a crouch button though BajoBAJOYeah it felt weird not having one there's plent of multiplayer modes, and the level design is all classic wester locals and there are some nice chokepoints here and there. There's plenty of multiplayer modes to keep you going, gold fever is a co-op wave mode where you need to lug heavy bags of coins back to your base. The AI isn't amazing, sometimes they'll go to try to revive a dead teammate or walk into walls...HEXYes the other modes are better, our favourite is powder keg is where the lolls are, you need to transport heavy explosives to objective points... of course while transferring them, your opponents can shoot your red barrel...BAJOYeah it's quite stressful when that fuse starts and you need to lob it and leg it. I had a good time here, but the only problem with this game is the pings and it's a BIG problem... we couldn't get a match under 500 so it's pretty unplayable right now... the developer is working on dedicated servers which MIGHT help but right now it's not a high profile enough game to be playable if you don't have your own friends you can play it with. I'm giving it 7.5HEXYeah the pings are horrible, hopefully it'll get better as the game gets noticed we couldn't get our game pads working either which was a shame, I like my 3rd person with a controller, so I'm hanging out for the console version and giving this a 7. 59ce067264
